PATRICIA VANZELLA is the Director of “Neuroscience and Music at UFABC” and Associate Professor in the Center for Mathematics, Computing and Cognition at Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC). As a musician, she studied with pianist Kornél Zempléni at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music (Budapest) and obtained a doctoral degree in Piano/Chamber Music from the Catholic University of America (Washington, DC). As soloist, she performed with the main symphonic orchestras in Brazil, her native country; as a chamber musician, she performed in concerts across Europe, North America, and Asia. From 1993 to 2017 she was a faculty member of the Department of Music at University of Brasilia. In the field of music cognition and neuroscience, she has been collaborating with researchers from the University of Toronto, University of London, Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (Leipzig), Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC), Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and the Brain Institute of the Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo (IIEP). In 2010 she held a post-doctoral position in the graduate program in Information Engineering at Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC).
